Haulin’ for Humanity
Seeking More Opportunities to Serve
CHICAGO, August 10, 2009 –
Haulin’ for Humanity, a nonprofit trucking company that hauls food and supplies
for donations only, has just been granted 501-C3 tax-exempt status by the
federal government. Haulin’ for
Humanity, which combines a passion for trucking with a spiritual call to
service, is now looking for more opportunities to move freight for other
nonprofit groups and church organizations.
Starting in October of 2008, John C.
Gervase, with the approval of his employer, Heniff Transportation Systems in
Burr Ridge, Illinois, used his truck to haul food regularly for the Northern
Illinois Food Bank. Seeing the need for
more of this type of service with food banks, Haulin’ for Humanity was formed
in January of 2009. The food bank serves
a 13-county area, providing foodstuffs to 520 sites including soup kitchens,
pantries, childcare agencies, shelters, and after-school snack programs.
“There is no other trucking service
that I know of like Haulin’ for Humanity,” said Gervase. “Not limited to food bank hauling, I will
take food or supplies to wherever they are needed, including disaster sites to
almost anywhere within the U.S.
Recently, I had the opportunity to take a load of water to a town in
Missouri whose water supply was damaged by a tornado.”
Gervase says there is an urgent need
for his company’s services in today’s current depressed economy. “Every nonprofit group needs to keep its
costs under control, and Haulin’ for Humanity provides a unique service that
enables other nonprofits to stretch their resources that much further.”
Gervase now operates two to three days per week, and he says he is looking for other nonprofit groups he can help. “I love driving my Peterbilt, and I’ve had a lifelong interest in community service. Haulin’ for Humanity allows me to indulge my passion for driving while serving a good cause.”

Haulin’ for Humanity accepts private and corporate tax deductible
donations and is currently looking for corporate sponsors to partner with to
offset costs like fuel, maintenance and insurance. No salary is taken and 100% of all donations
